FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JANET JACKSON FANS TO SUPPORT AMFAR IN HONOR OF STAR’S BIRTHDAY
[April 8, 2011] In honor of Janet Jackson’s birthday, fans online are joining her in supporting amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research.
In 1989, Janet Jackson released “Rhythm Nation 1814,” an album thematically dedicated to bringing people of all cultures of the world together, with a focus on improving education and ending prejudice. Believing there is power in numbers, she rallied her listeners on the eponymous single, “It’s time to give a damn, let’s work together.”
As Janet travels the world this spring in support of her Number Ones: Greatest Hits Tour, her fans are returning to that Rhythm Nation pledge.
In honor of Janet’s birthday on May 16, fans will work together by giving $18.14 to amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research. One of Janet’s online fan communities, janet|xone, is spearheading this effort by organizing an online drive for donations. By contributing a symbolic $18.14 -- or any amount they are able to give -- Janet's fans are speaking loud and clear: “Thank you, amfAR, for your unyielding efforts in finding a cure.”
By honoring both Janet’s dedication to helping the organization in its fight against AIDS and the leadership role that amfAR has taken for 25 Years in tackling the global epidemic, Janet’s fans hope to encourage others to do give in any way they can.

According to a new date posted to the Ticketmaster* website, Janet will be playing a date this summer at the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Taking place in Indianapolis this summer August 5 through August 21, the Indiana State Fair regularly hosts musical artists as part of the festivities. Tickets go on sale Friday April 15 and include an admission to the State Fair.
* Update: The ticketmaster link has since been deleted, however Gil Duldulao did confirm this date via Twitter.
Choreographer and dancer Gil Duldulao left a posting on Twitter this weekend hinting at more tour dates to be announced.
So just got dates. Euro, canada and 2nd leg us. Boom.
Rumors of a second leg in the United States began last week when Peter Buchanan at The Chicago Examiner announced that promoters with Janet's tour are looking at adding additional dates in Chicago. While no dates have been officially announced, future US shows could be coming this fall.
Janet has performed two of three sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall with one final performance tonight.
In addition, Janet signed copies of her new book True You, at the Barnes and Noble on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
After leaving the bookstore, Janet's fans were treated to a surprise as she climbed out of the sunroof of her car to wave at the waiting crowd. The video below was posted by Youtube member Benjaminfm777. Janet is seen at 4:50.
Janet Jackson Signs Film Production Deal with Lionsgate (Exclusive)
6:55 PM 3/15/2011 by Pamela McClintock
The performer-actress inks a deal to select, develop and produce a feature film for the independent studio.
Janet Jackson is becoming a movie producer. The performer-actress has signed a production deal with Lionsgate to select, develop and produce a feature film for the independent studio.
Jackson has a thriving music career—she’s currently on world tour—but this is her first foray into film producing. She says movies have always been her first love.
“Many people forget I started out as an actor,” she tells THR. “I have been fortunate to work in the film industry, though not as much as I would like. I have a passion for storytelling, and have been doing it through my music for some time.”
A deal with Lionsgate was a natural fit. Jackson has starred in three Tyler Perry films--Why Did I Get Married, Why Did I Get Married Too and For Colored Girls. She also starred in John Singleton’s 1993 drama Poetic Justice.
Mike Paseornek, Lionsgate president of motion picture production and development, says the studio recognized Jackson’s instinct for great stories.
“She is a powerful on-screen presence, with a vast audience, and we believe she will be an equally powerful presence behind the scenes,” Paseornek says. “We are honored to be able to provide a home for her ideas, passion and immense talent.”
In terms of the film projects she might pursue, Jackson says she is drawn to diverse material. She says she is particularly captivated by film noir.
The deal with Lionsgate was negotiated by Paseornek, executive vp business & legal affairs Robert Melnik and director of business & legal affairs Neil Ollivierra on behalf of the studio. Negotiating on behalf of Jackson and her jdj Entertainment were attorneys Tom Hoberman and Don Steele of the Hansen Jacobson firm.
Earlier this month, Jackson’s memoir True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list.
Presently, Jackson is on her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal world tour. The performer and actress has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and ranks as one of the bestselling artists in the history of contemporary music.
Jackson is repped by WME, JdJ Entertainment, the Sterling Winters Co., Hansen Jacobson and Hertz & Lichtenstein.
Janet Jackson will be signing "True You" in New York City on the 3/19 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 at Barnes & Noble, 555 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10017. You better get there early!
Because Janet has a show at Radio City Music Hall that evening, the 4:30 cut off is definite. With only a 90 minute window for the book signing, fans should take the "get there early" indication VERY seriously.
Janet wrapped up her third and final performance at The Chicago Theatre Wednesday night and prepared for a two show stint at The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.
Prior to departing, Janet and the kids signed the Wall Of Fame backstage at the Chicago Theatre, complete with caricatures of Janet and each of the dancers.
The Baton is a world renowned establishment in Chicago celebrating over 40 years, and the longest running female impersonation show in the country. Mimi Marks, standing on Janet's left in the photo below, has been friends with Janet for years and is featured in the Rock With U video.
Choreographer and dancer Gil Duldulao posted photos of Janet's tour book on Twitter from backstage at the Reliant Arena in Houston, where Janet is preparing for tonight's performance.
The front and back covers of the tour book feature images from her recent Blackglama photoshoot. Inside, each page appears to be dedicated to a history of Janet's career by album era.
The tour book will be on sale for the duration of the tour.
According to a recent twitter posting by Janet's choreographer and artistic director Gil Duldulao, tonights show in Houston will be an abbreviated show -- lasting around one hour -- and they will be using the venue stage.
Janet's Number Ones Up Close and personal tour kicked off tonight in Hidalgo, Texas at the State Farm arena.
Artistic Director and friend Gil Duldulao tweeted a photo of the tour merchandise booth just prior to the concert, indicating that there were tour books and shirts available. Gil is also a dancer on this leg of the tour.
Also, according to a twitter posting by forum member outwithme, who was live-tweeting from the arena, Janet added several new songs to the show, including "All Nite (Don't Stop)," "I Get Lonely," and "Diamonds."
Karen Hunter Publishing, the book publisher for Janet's True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself, has released information regarding Janet's upcoming TV appearances.
*Janet Jackson’s interview on Dateline NBC will now be the full hour this Sunday, February 13th at 7pm eastern time!*
Janet's tour merchandise on sale during the opening night concert in Manila reveals a more complete list of concert locations than currently announced.
Her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal tour t-shirts are printed with a list of cities on the back side. While the dates are all chronological, they include Cannes France, Sydney Australia, and Tokyo Japan as three cities not officially revealed.
There is currently no official word on either of these cities, nor are there dates or venues listed on the merchandise.
