Janet's longtime friend and artistic director Gil Duldulao confirmed on Twitter this evening that he worked as choreographer on Janet's upcoming film For Colored Girls.
Gil Duldulao (@GHSDuldulao) 9/15/10 4:30 PM So excited for "For Colored Girls" to come out. Choreographed it and very proud of it. Thanks to my assistant @TajaRiley who held it down with me doing 2 gigs at once.
In later postings, Gil explains that the choreography is set to the poems featured in the film, and said that he wasn't sure how much of his work will appear in the final edit. He also said of Tyler Perry: " ...yo , its hard to please this man."
Gil refers to being assisted by Taja Riley, who first appeared as a dancer for Janet in the "Make Me" video.
For Colored Girls will be released in North America on November 5.
Last night, Janet Jackson performed a private concert at New York's Radio City Music Hall for investment company Rodman & Renshaw's 12th Annual Global Investment Conference.
The show was basically a slightly shortened version of July's Essence Music Festival performance, which was also patterned after the Rock Witchu Tour, with a handful of songs eliminated, including "Got 'Til It's Gone," "Call On Me," "I Get Lonely," "Funny How Time Flies," "Any Time, Any Place, "Discipline," "Young Love," and "Say You Do."
While the costumes and choreography mostly remained identical to the Essence performance, Janet surprised many in the audience when she opened the show at the back of the theater and sang the first verse of "Pleasure Principle" while walking down the aisle and slapping the palms of people in the audience as she made her way onto the stage.
The full setlist from last night's performance:
1. The Pleasure Principle 2. Control 3. What Have You Done For Me Lately 4. Feedback 5. You Want This 6. Alright 7. Miss You Much 8. Nothing 9. Come Back To Me 10. Let's Wait Awhile 11. Again 12. Doesn't Really Matter 13. Escapade 14. Love Will Never Do (Without You) 15. When I Think Of You 16. All For You 17. That's The Way Love Goes 18. Black Cat 19. If 20. Nasty 21. Rhythm Nation 22. Make Me 23. Together Again
The official movie posters for Janet Jackson's upcoming film For Colored Girls have been released online.
Each of the eight main actresses, including Janet, are featured individually in their own separate character posters. A better quality version of the first promotional photo from the film has also been released as well.
Lionsgate announced this week that the theatrical release date in the U.S. and Canada for Tyler Perry's new film For Colored Girls has been moved up to November 5.
Variety is reporting that the move better positions the film for year-end awards consideration and is meant to bolster the company's remaining 2010 slate.
"It's a serious film that really lends itself to the fall period," said Lionsgate distrib topper David Spitz.
With the new date, Colored Girls will go up against 3D cartoon Megamind, and the Todd Phillips directed film Due Date.
